Offering more financial security for conference organisers |
Anyone who wants to organise a conference must weigh a variety of factors in advance. After all, expenses are incurred before the registration fees even start to come in. These expenditures include activities such as setting up a foundation, making a downpayment for the venue or printing brochures and designing a website. Then there’s always the question of whether or not the number of participants will live up to expectations.
Thanks to the Dutch Pre-financing and Guarantee Fund (VGF), choosing Maastricht as a destination offers a solution for alleviating event organisers’ financial concerns. Local scientific experts in Maastricht who are involved in organising a conference are already enjoying the benefits the programme offers. Associate Professor Jules Harings, Professor Kim Ragaert and Assistant Professor Gideon Koekoek of the Maastricht University Faculty of Science and Engineering tell you more.

Accelerating innovations in health |
As an eye surgeon, Professor Henny Beckers prefers to focus on challenging glaucoma surgery. She heads the Maastricht UMC+ Glaucoma Clinic which treats patients from all over the Netherlands. Several years ago, she was awarded two grants, each in the millions of Euros, funding that gave her the opportunity to develop her own glaucoma implants. This represents a major step forward in glaucoma surgery that could potentially prevent blindness in patients. Watch the interview with Professor Henny Beckers.
